So, here I am, starting my new and unique blog. I am going to take this chance to express myself more than I usually do. Express my feelings, my thoughts, my inside a little more. I really don’t want to take it just as a school assignment.

So first of all: who am I? I am Rocio, or Roci, just for pronunciation matters. I am a 26 year old women/girl (not quite sure yet) from a small city called Olavarría, located in Argentina, South America. It’s not Brazil, and certainly, it is not in Europe. It is an independent country, and the Southern point of the entire world is right there. I don’t want to be rude, but just to clarify as some people have asked me about it before. Three years ago, I left my entire life behind, and with only one backpack, I went out to the world to look for a better life. Crying, I left my family, my job, my friends, my house, my plants, and my 2 boxes of handcraft material behind and with my backpack full of fears and excitement at the same time, I started this journey. I knew something good was just around the corner waiting for me.

This morning, my teacher asked the class about an experience where we acquired a new skill. I honestly find it so hard to specify a particular answer. I feel like I have been learning skills my entire life. But I’ll try to simplify it… Where do I start? Since a kid, I am passionate about handcrafts. When I am knitting, doing crochet, or making jewelry, I feel like I am in my own bubble and the world fully stops spinning. I learned my first skill, knitting, when I was about 8 years old. I remember sitting at the table next to my grandmother at her house, watching for hours how the needles moved as fast as I can still not move them. One day, when I was old enough, she asked me “Do you want to learn?” And of course I say yes! As excited as a little girl feeling she is getting older and independent, she started teaching me. Patiently, moving my hands and the needles while she was behind me, she taught me the basics. I used to make mistakes all the time, doing massive holes of thread everywhere, so she would undo the knit and correct it while showing me how to avoid that… After years I still knit every week. I have been improving my skills thought the years a little bit more by reading magazines with diagrams and different clothes or blanket models. I also watch YouTube videos, which is a very useful tool to keep on learning new skills.

In conclusion, in my experience, learning the basics of knitting with my grandma and then improving it by my own research was a very good way of feeling like things were on the good track.
