Topic 10 - Film and Audiences

I believe that usually the impact a movie has on me, or on the audience, changes according to the moment and the place we watch that film. I believe watching a movie involves a whole experience, not just how good or bad the movie is. The audience can be impacted in different ways according to their mood on that day, their beliefs, the place they are watching the film and also who they are watching it with.

Said this, is it hard to say if I prefer going the cinema or watching a movie home. Although I really enjoy the whole cinema experience and I go very often, I believe not every movie needs to be watched at the big screen. When I go to the cinema, is because I know that movie is meant to be watched there. There are films that are worth paying a ticket, and there are others that I rather watch on my couch. For example, last week I went to the movies to watch Beauty and the Beast, because I knew it worth it, and it absolutely did. The music on some scenes and the whole experience transported me to my childhood; to all the memories I have and remember from when I was around 7 years old. I believe, that watching this movie home wouldn’t have the same impact on me. I cried as if was 7 again, and this was because of the entire experience and of what the loud music made me feel. In Beauty and the Beast, as in many other movies, the aspect or technique used in the film that engaged me the most with it and made me feel the way I did was, no doubts, the music.

In conclusion, even though I really enjoy going to the cinema, I can’t say wether I prefer it to watching a movie home because it is hard to make a comparison. They are both different experiences and involve a different commitment and engagement with the movie.
